APEL-İŞ MOUNTING
This is the interior design project of a jewellery store located in Fatih, Istanbul which I did in collabration with Öykü Köksal (Architect).
The aim of the design was to provide a neat, modern and clean looking architectural space for a retail shopping area in a very narrow, small and crowded place. Therefore, the separator dividing the space was removed to create one, big undivided, continuous space. The existing furniture was in dark colors and the walls were covered by busy, tiring wallpaper, in order to make the space feel bigger, we decided to decorate the walls with a light colored decorative gypsum and designed the furniture in lighter colors. We decided to use display niches on the wall behind the desks. There were structural concrete columns in the wall which we covered with a unique mirror design. The kitchenette part was trimmed down to single countertop according to the demands of the clients and the space left from them were used for storage cabinets for the jewellery from the seperation cabinet they had. The existing huge area for accountants were redesigned as a compact, smaller and more defined space in the corner. There was huge tall safe deposit box in the management room. It was moved to a cabinet outside and replaced by a small desk in case the managers and staff needs a private meeting. Last but not least, the client asked for advice on what could have been done for the facade and front shop window. The window starts at 120 cm above from the street elevation which makes it harder to attract the potential passer by costumers. They didn't have much problem with it as they usually do business with acquaintances as wholesales, so we tried to keep the design relatively cheaper. Therefore, we simply designed a similar mirrors for the sides of the shopwindow and placed them at such an angle that it would create a illusion of thousands of jewelleries as well as the street behind. Similar approach was taken for the ceiling of the window shop too.
A small revision was made because the clients felt like they need all the salesmen need their own desk and limits apparent and they needed the display cases in the back wall smaller and more in quantity. Therefore, we decided change the design of the sales desks and display cases.
